K-64 brings education, business, and government together to connect people of all ages with the skills needed to fill jobs and build careers in Catawba County.

We are proud and honored that one wing of CVCC’s Workforce Solutions Complex was dedicated to such a deserving and impactful man, Mark Story. He served as the CEO of K-64 from 2017 until his unexpected passing in February 2020. A mural of Story with his quote — “The future of Catawba County begins and ends with our students” — is also on display near the midpoint of the wing, along with a commissioned portrait by local artist Randy Clontz.

Mark had an internal drive and desire to make a difference and help his community – Catawba County, North Carolina. He was a champion for the underdog and strived to help them while tirelessly collaborating with policy makers that impacted all of us.

He had an ability to see the big picture but still be able to articulate that to whomever he was speaking with – from high level NC legislation to the backbone of Catawba County, our workforce. And, everyone he encountered knew he was about one thing – “getting something done”.

Mark was a strong believer in family and enduring friendships. He left us too soon, but he would be the first to tell that a higher power had a plan all along.
