K-64 brings education, business, and government together to connect people of all ages with the skills needed to fill jobs and build careers in Catawba County.

K-64 Learning and CVCC had the privilege of hosting Ridgeview Rec’s “SummerFlang Camp 2021”!

This jam-packed week introduced campers to CVCC faculty, classrooms, and programs. From theater, to robotics, to the medical field, to special visits by the local EMS and fire department, campers enjoyed hands-on learning while spending time with friends. Each student had the opportunity to discover career paths and explore that never-ending question: What do you want to be when you grow up?

During the East Campus tour, students visited the Visual Arts Center (Top Left) and got to watch the ceramics wheel. At the Criminal Justice stop (Top Right), they got to work with some mini-investigating!

Back on Main Campus, students entered the Simulated Hospital (Left)  to watch the high-tech patient mannequin in action. And in the Biology lab (Right), brave students had the chance to touch a snake!

At the Workforce Solutions Complex, instructors revealed the unique and exciting aspects of skilled trades like powering automotive systems and creating special figures with 3-D printing!

And the innovation didn’t stop there! The Mechatronics department  robot walked and followed toys around the rec center gym. Some campers even got to come close and say hi!

After an eventful few days, some visitors arrived to the rec center to show off shiny fire trucks, important EMS skills, and a service dog who works at the police department.

We had a blast meeting and learning from these fantastic students, and we hope they created fun memories that will last all year!

K-64 Learning and CVCC thanks all of the staff, faculty, chaperones, and professional partners for their participation in this one-of-a-kind week.
