As indicated in the World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs Report, people management, coordinating with others, emotional intelligence, judgment and decision-making, service orientation, and the ability to negotiate are top skills that employers are looking for in candidates.Character education helps to foster these skills in students.
K-64 is focused on creating innovative programs and partnerships to promote character and soft skill development in our K-12 schools. We are currently piloting two character education programs, as well as, a Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) screening tool in four elementary schools with the goal of expanding character education throughout Catawba County’s three school systems in the future. Our team is creating partnerships with local organizations to provide support and enhance the wonderful work that they are already doing in our community.
Our laser-like focus on character education will be a contributing factor in creating workforce-ready graduates and ethical citizens in Catawba County. The Future of Jobs Report provides evidence that K-64 is on the right track. Through K-64, everyone is truly working together to ensure a bright, prosperous future for Catawba County.
